Jiangmen Overview


Jiangmen City, a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Guangdong Province, also known as the Five Counties and Four Counties, is located on the west bank of the Pearl River Delta. Its terrain is low in the north and high in the west, with low mountains and hills dominating. It borders Zhongshan City and Zhuhai City to the east, Yangjiang City to the west, Foshan City and Yunfu City to the north, and the South China Sea to the south. It has a land area of 9,535 square kilometers and 4,880.47 square kilometers of sea area. As of March 2025, Jiangmen City governs three districts and administers four county-level cities. By the end of 2024, Jiangmen City's permanent population was 4.8226 million.

Jiangmen City is a key node city in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, an advanced manufacturing base, a "new growth pole on the west bank of the Pearl River," and a key gateway from the Greater Bay Area to western Guangdong and the southwest. It boasts abundant tourism resources, including the Kaiping Diaolou and Ancient Villages, a World Cultural Heritage site; the Bird Paradise described by Ba Jin; Guifeng Mountain National Forest Park; the Upper and Lower Chuan Islands, one of Guangdong Province's "Ten Beautiful Islands"; Chikan Ancient Town, a "Famous Historical and Cultural Town in China"; and Gulao Water Village, a Lingnan Water Village. In 2023, it was designated a third-tier city.
