Yinchuan Overview


Yinchuan City, the capital of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, is a prefecture-level city. It is also known as "Yin" and was formerly called "Xingqing Prefecture." It is also called "Phoenix City" and is located in Northwest China, in the central part of the Ningxia Plain. The terrain is divided into two main parts: mountains and plains. The western and southern parts are higher, while the northern and eastern parts are lower. It has a typical mid-latitude continental climate, characterized by dryness and strong evaporation. The total area is 9025.38 square kilometers. As of April 2024, Yinchuan City administers 3 districts, 2 counties, and 1 county-level city. The dialect spoken in Yinchuan belongs to the "Lanzhou-Yinchuan Mandarin - Yinchuan-Wu dialect," a Northern dialect. As of the end of 2024, Yinchuan City had a resident population of 2.9147 million.
