Changzhi City, a prefecture-level city and a sub-provincial center in Shanxi Province, China, was formerly known as Shangdang, Luzhou, and Lu'an. It is located in southeastern Shanxi, at the junction of Shanxi, Hebei, and Henan provinces, in the Shangdang Basin. Bounded to the east by the Taihang Mountains, it borders Hebei and Henan provinces. To the west, it is sheltered by the Taiyue Mountains, sharing a border with Linfen City. It adjoins Jincheng City to the south and Jinzhong City to the north. It has a warm temperate semi-humid continental monsoon climate. As of October 2022, the city governs four districts and eight counties, covering an area of 13,955 square kilometers. By the end of 2024, the city's permanent population was 3.0976 million.
Changzhi City is located in southeastern Shanxi Province, with coordinates at 111°58'03"–112°44'04" east longitude and 35°49'–37°08' north latitude. Its longest east-west length is approximately 150 kilometers, and its widest north-south width is approximately 140 kilometers. To the east, it borders Hebei and Henan provinces, while to the west, it shares a border with Linfen City, Jincheng City to the south, and Jinzhong City to the north. Changzhi City covers a total area of 13,955 square kilometers, accounting for 8.90% of the province's total area. Changzhi City is 229 kilometers from the provincial capital, Taiyuan, and 623 kilometers from the capital, Beijing.
