Beihai History & Culture

Beihai City was established in 1926. A key node city in the Beibu Gulf Urban Agglomeration and Guangxi Beibu Gulf Economic Zone, it was a key departure port on the ancient Maritime Silk Road and one of China's earliest treaty ports. Historically, it served as a major distribution center for overseas trade between Yunnan, Guizhou, Sichuan, Guangxi, Hunan, Hubei, and other provinces. It is also a National Historic and Cultural City, the only coastal city in western China included in the first 14 cities to be further opened to the outside world. It is the only city in western China boasting a deepwater port, an all-weather airport, high-speed railways, and expressways. It was once selected as one of the "Top 100 Counties and Cities for Real Estate Investment in China" and recognized as one of China's Ten Most Beautiful Cities.
