Guiyang History & Culture

Humans have lived and worked here for 30,000 years. From the Spring and Autumn Period to the early Han Dynasty, the Guiyang area belonged to the ancient Yelang. During the Han Dynasty, Zangke Commandery was established, with Guiyang as its seat. During the Ming Dynasty, Guiyang Prefecture was established. In 1914, Guiyang County was established. In 1941, Guiyang County was abolished, and Guiyang City was established with the urban area and its surrounding suburbs.
