In December 2016, the National Development and Reform Commission issued the "13th Five-Year Plan for Promoting the Rise of Central China," designating Ganzhou as a national regional central city. In February 2017, the State Council issued the "13th Five-Year Plan for the Development of a Modern Comprehensive Transportation System," positioning Ganzhou as a national comprehensive transportation hub. In August 2024, Ganzhou, along with Shenzhen and Zhuhai, was successfully selected as a national comprehensive freight hub support city for strengthening and supplementing the supply chain.
Ganzhou Huangjin Airport, the second largest airport in Jiangxi Province, is located in Fenggang Town, Ganzhou Economic and Technological Development Zone, and is planned as a 4D-level civil airport. In 2024, Ganzhou Huangjin Airport operated 28 routes to 32 destinations, serving 13 of the top 20 airports in China in terms of passenger throughput. It operates daily flights to Beijing, Shanghai, Kunming, Hangzhou, Haikou, and Chengdu. In 2023, Ganzhou Huangjin Airport operated 31 routes to 29 cities, handling 1.913 million passengers.
