Fuzhou enjoys a typical subtropical monsoon climate, characterized by pleasant temperatures, warm and humid weather, evergreen seasons, abundant sunshine, and abundant rainfall. Frost and snow are rare, and summers are long and winters are short, with a frost-free period of 326 days. The average annual sunshine hours range from 1,700 to 1,980 hours, and the average annual precipitation is 900 to 2,100 mm. The average annual temperature ranges from 20°C to 25°C, with the coldest months, January and February, reaching an average temperature of 6°C to 10°C, and the hottest months, July and August, reaching an average temperature of 33°C to 37°C. Extreme temperatures range from a high of 42.3°C to a low of -2.5°C, making Fuzhou the hottest of the four major hot zones in 2013. The annual relative humidity is approximately 77%. The heat island effect is common, and Fuzhou's basin-like terrain means summer midday temperatures can reach over 36°C. The prevailing wind direction is northeasterly, with southerly winds predominating in summer. July to September is hot, and typhoon activity is concentrated, with an average of two typhoons making direct landfall in the city annually. The best tourist season is from April to November. Fuzhou generally has no snow in winter. There is occasional snowfall in higher elevations, such as Gushan Mountain. However, winter rain is common, and the climate is relatively humid.
