The Min River near the Golden Leg has a width of 450 meters and a depth of 50 meters. It can pass over 20000 cubic meters of water per second, which is more than 10 times that of the upstream Taijiang section. However, large floods have never submerged the ankles of the Diamond Leg, so there is a saying that "a great flood cannot surpass the Diamond Leg". Therefore, it is regarded as a natural symbol of flood peak water level and navigation in the Min River by people.

Above the surviving diamond leg is a four character stone carving inscribed with the words "Diamond washing feet" by the famous Chinese naval admiral Sa Zhenbing. The Diamond Legs, Five Tiger Reef at the mouth of the Minjiang River, Northern and Southern Turtles, and Emperor's Well are listed as the "Seven Scenic Spots of the Minjiang River".
