Jingzhou Overview


Jingzhou, formerly known as Jiangling, Yingdu, and Nanjun, is a prefecture-level city in Hubei Province, located in south-central Hubei, in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River, and in the heart of the Jianghan Plain. It borders Hannan District of Wuhan City to the east; Yueyang City of Hunan Province to the south (along the Yangtze River), and Yiyang City and Changde City; Dangyang City, Zhijiang City, Yidu City, and Wufeng County of Yichang City to the west; and Jingmen City, Qianjiang City, and Xiantao City to the north. It covers a total area of 14,100 square kilometers. In 2023, the city had a resident population of 5,135,500 and administers 2 districts, 2 counties, and 4 county-level cities. The local dialect belongs to the Southwestern Mandarin dialect group of the Hubei-Guangdong sub-dialect.
