Jingzhou City belongs to the northern subtropical monsoon humid climate zone, characterized by distinct seasons, abundant heat, suitable sunshine, plentiful rainfall, simultaneous rain and heat, and a long frost-free period.
The city's average annual temperature is 16.2–16.6℃, with cold winters and hot summers. January is the coldest month, and August is the hottest. Annual total radiation is 4366.8–4576.2 MJ/m², annual sunshine duration is 1823–1978 hours, sunshine rate is 41%–44%, and the frost-free period is 250–267 days.
The city's annual precipitation is 1100–1300 mm. Due to the influence of the monsoon, precipitation is highly seasonal and varies significantly. Winter rainfall accounts for 7%–10% of the annual precipitation, and January is the driest month of the year. Spring rainfall accounts for 30%-37% of the annual precipitation, summer rainfall accounts for 30%-45%, autumn rainfall accounts for 17%-22%, and rainfall from April to October accounts for 80% of the annual precipitation. The spatial and temporal distribution of the onset of summer rainstorms shows a clear consistency with the displacement of the western Pacific subtropical high. The plum rain season generally begins in mid-to-late June and ends around mid-July. There are usually 1-2 major rainfall events during the plum rain season, but there are also years with no plum rain season, and there have been years with a "double plum rain" (1998).
