Yuncheng Overview


Yuncheng City, a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Shanxi Province, is located in the Jinnan Basin in southern Shanxi Province, east of the middle reaches of the northern main stream of the Yellow River, in the hilly area of the North China Plain, and on the eastern first step of the Loess Plateau. It borders Linfen City at the southern foot of the Lüliang Mountains to the north, Jincheng City to the east at the Zhongtiao Mountains, and faces Shaanxi and Henan Provinces to the west and south, respectively, across the Yellow River. With a total area of 14,182.88 square kilometers, it accounts for 9% of Shanxi Province's land area. As of April 2024, Yuncheng City administers one district, two county-level cities, and ten counties. By the end of 2023, Yuncheng City's permanent population was 4.7056 million.

The city's longitude and latitude range between 110°15′–112°04′ east longitude and 34°35′–35°49′ north latitude, stretching 201.87 kilometers from east to west and 127.47 kilometers from north to south, with a total area of 14,182.88 square kilometers.
