Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport, located in Gaoqi, Huli District, Xiamen, 10 kilometers from the city center, is a 4E-class civil international airport that opened in October 1983. Terminal 4 officially opened in December 2014, increasing the airport's annual passenger capacity to 27 million. According to the airport's official website in September 2017, Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport features a 3,400-meter runway, two parallel taxiways, and 10 connecting taxiways. The apron has a total area of 770,000 square meters and 89 parking spaces. The terminal building has a total floor area of 237,800 square meters. The airport serves 109 cities and offers 182 domestic and international routes. In 2016, Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport handled 22.7376 million passengers, a year-on-year increase of 4.2%; 328,400 tons of cargo and mail, a year-on-year increase of 5.7%; and 183,500 takeoffs and landings, a year-on-year increase of 1.9%, ranking 11th, 12th, and 13th in China, respectively.
Xiamen Xiang'an International Airport (Under Construction)
Xiamen Xiang'an International Airport is located on the southeastern tip of Dadeng Island, Dadeng Subdistrict, Xiang'an District, Xiamen City, Fujian Province, China. It is approximately 22 kilometers west of Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport and 25 kilometers southwest of Xiamen's city center. It is a Class 4F international hub airport in the West Coast of the Taiwan Strait and a gateway hub airport for the Maritime Silk Road. Site selection for Xiamen Xiang'an International Airport began in July 2007, and the Dadeng Island site was approved in November 2014. Construction of Xiamen Xiang'an International Airport began on January 4, 2022. Xiamen Xiang'an International Airport boasts a terminal area of 550,000 square meters, a civil aviation apron with 196 aircraft stands, and two long, parallel runways measuring 3,600 meters and 3,800 meters respectively. The airport can handle an annual passenger throughput of 45 million, 750,000 tons of cargo and mail, and 380,000 aircraft movements. As a rare island-type airport globally, Xiamen Xiang'an International Airport is a nationally recognized major international airport, a regional hub, and a gateway for cross-strait exchanges. It is a key infrastructure component of the central government's support for Fujian's all-round pursuit of high-quality development.
