Nanputuo Temple is located next to Xiamen University, so it can be visited on the same day as Xiamen University. It is a well-known Buddhist temple in southern Fujian and even throughout the country. If you are planning to pray for blessings, you may come here to pay your respects. Behind the temple is Wulao Peak, which is also one of the eight major scenic spots in Xiamen. The temple originated in the Tang Dynasty and was rebuilt by Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty. It was named Nanputuo Temple because it, along with Puji Temple on Mount Putuo, mainly worships Guanyin Bodhisattva and is located south of Mount Putuo.
There are two mountain gates outside the temple, and the distance between them is very close, so you can enter through either gate. The release pond is located in front of two doors, with turtles inside and a lotus pond in front.
Nanputuo Temple is very small, and if you don't plan to climb Wulao Peak, you can visit it quickly. The main buildings are the the Shakya ManiHall, the Great Compassion Hall, the Sutra Pavilion, etc. (passing through the mountain gate in order), the bell tower and drum tower on both sides, the charity building on the left side and the Puzhao building on the right side, corresponding from left to right, magnificent.
The the Shakya ManiHall is dedicated to the Three Saints of the West, the Hall of Great Compassion is dedicated to Guanyin, and the Eighteen Arhat live in the east and west. In the Sutra Pavilion, you can see various precious Buddhist relics.
There are many famous people's inscriptions around the temple in Nanputuo Temple, and there is a huge "Buddha" stone carving on the cliff behind the temple, which is often photographed by tourists.
Puzhao Building is a place for vegetarians, and those who love to eat vegetarian food can consider dining here. The Su Zhai of Nanputuo Temple is still very famous and has won awards nationwide.
