There are many beautiful buildings on Gulangyu Island, but even so, Haitian Hall is still famous for its beautiful architecture. You can listen to stories in the western-style house and imagine the lives of people at that time. You can also watch puppet shows and Nanyin performances with rich Minnan characteristics. Haitian Hall is an old villa complex built in 1921, located at 38 Fujian Road, Gulangyu Island. Its overall style is a combination of Chinese and Western styles, and you can see the traditional Chinese style flying eaves and upturned corners, all of which are decorated with entwined flowers or water absorbing mosquito dragons. You can also see ancient Greek columns and Western style window decorations, all perfectly combined. Its tickets are a bit expensive, so many tourists don't enter and just take exterior photos outside. But if you like to see this type of western-style building, it is still worth it because you can carefully examine the details of the house after entering, and there is also a tour guide's explanation (every half hour, of course, if there are too few tourists, it is not ruled out that the tour guide may be lazy), which helps you understand the architecture and history of the house. If you decide to go, you can find an agent in advance to buy tickets, which will be cheaper than the local price. It has a total of five old villas, and three of them have been restored and opened to the public. Among them, No. 34 has been developed into a highly tasteful Nanyang style caf é, providing visitors with a leisurely coffee experience in the villas of old overseas Chinese; No. 42 has been developed as a performance center for the intangible cultural heritage of Nanyin and puppetry in China. Here, performances of Nanyin and puppetry can be seen, approximately every half hour. The puppet show is on the first floor, which is quite lively. The TV next to it will show a brief introduction of the performance content, and later the performers will come out to showcase their skills to the audience, such as playing bowls and dancing sticks, which is very exciting. The Nanyin performance is on the second floor, and the melody is very beautiful. The main building with rich architectural features, No. 38, has been developed into the Gulangyu Architectural Art Museum. The main building is tall and spacious, with themes displayed in each room, mainly showcasing old villas and little-known celebrity stories behind them, with a strong nostalgic color.
