Jinan Overview


Jinan City (English name: Jinan City), abbreviated as "Ji", also known as "Spring City", is a prefecture-level city, provincial capital, sub-provincial city, and megacity in Shandong Province. Located in central Shandong, its geographical coordinates are between 36°02′ and 37°54′ north latitude and 116°21′ and 117°93′ east longitude. It has a warm temperate continental monsoon climate. Its topography mainly consists of low mountains, hills, plains, and low-lying areas along the Yellow River. It boasts numerous springs with abundant water, earning it the title of a natural karst spring museum. As of April 2024, the city administers 10 districts and 2 counties, covering a total area of 10,244.45 square kilometers. The municipal government is located at No. 1 Longding Avenue, Lixia District. As of the end of 2024, Jinan City had a resident population of 9.515 million. The Jinan dialect belongs to the Ji-Lu Mandarin dialect group.
