Huhehaote Climate


Hohhot has a mid-latitude continental monsoon climate with distinct seasons. Winters are long and harsh, summers are short and hot, and spring and autumn bring dramatic changes in weather. The average annual temperature increases from north to south, with the northern Daqingshan area averaging around 2℃ and the southern area around 6.7℃. January is the coldest month, with an average temperature of -12.7 to 16.1℃; July is the hottest month, with an average temperature of 17 to 22.9℃. The average annual temperature range is 34.4 to 35.7℃, and the average daily temperature range is 13.5 to 13.7℃.


Hohhot receives an average annual precipitation of 335.2 to 534.6 mm, with rainfall distribution showing a pattern of more in the north and south, and more in the east and west, decreasing gradually from northeast to southwest. The average annual rainfall in the southwest region is 350 mm; around 400 mm in the plains; and 430 to 500 mm in the Daqingshan Mountains. The wettest place is Yiqianxiang Village in Daqingshan Township, with an average annual rainfall of 534.6 mm. January has the least rainfall, while August has the most.


The prevailing winds in Hohhot are mainly northwesterly and northerly, concentrated in spring, autumn, and winter, with an average annual wind direction frequency of 7. The average annual wind speed in most areas is 2.1 to 2.8 m/s, while the average annual wind speed in the mountainous areas is 1.7 m/s.


The frost-free period in Hohhot gradually increases from north to south, with 75 days in the northern mountainous areas, 110 days in the low hills and mountains, and 113 to 134 days in the southern plains. The region has an average of 1600 hours of sunshine per year.
