Hengyang Climate

Hengyang experienced persistently high temperatures in the first half of the year, primarily due to an unusually warm winter and repeated high spring temperatures. The general trend was a mild winter with high spring temperatures, with concentrated precipitation after the onset of spring. The summer and autumn periods in the second half of the year were characterized by abundant rainfall and relatively cool temperatures, with the rainy season not ending clearly. This is a key manifestation of the abnormal climate changes caused by the El Niño phenomenon. The city's average sunshine was 1,520.2 hours, 47.5 hours less than the average and 28.6 hours less than 2012. Compared to precipitation and temperature, monthly sunshine variations were relatively stable, with 81.7% of months falling within the range of low to high. 8.3% of months experienced sunshine deviations of more than 50% below the average, while 10.3% experienced sunshine deviations of more than 50%. March saw significantly higher sunshine, exceeding the average by 75.0%. The urban area and Qidong County experienced the most abnormal increases, with the urban area experiencing a 116.7% increase. June saw sunshine decrease by 60.2% below the average, resulting in a significantly lower average.
