Handan Overview


Handan, a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Hebei Province, is known as the "Capital of Idioms and Hometown of Tai Chi." It is a regional center city approved by the "Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Coordinated Development Plan" and the "Plan for the Central Plains Economic Zone." Located in the southern tip of Hebei Province, Handan borders the Taihang Mountains to the west and the North China Plain to the east, sharing borders with Shanxi, Shandong, and Henan Provinces. As of the end of 2024, the city has a total area of 12,000 square kilometers, a registered population of 10.656 million, and a permanent population of 9.182 million. It administers 20 counties (cities, districts), 242 townships (towns, sub-districts), and 5,879 villages (communities).
