Changchun Climate

Changchun's climate lies in the transition zone between the humid mountainous areas in the east and the semi-arid plains in the west, belonging to the temperate continental semi-humid monsoon climate type. Although the east and south are not far from the ocean, the summer monsoon is weakened by the obstruction of the Changbai Mountains; the west and north are the flat Songliao Plain, where the Siberian polar continental air mass flows unimpeded. Therefore, the overall climate characteristics are dry and windy springs, warm and short summers, sunny autumns with large temperature differences, and long and cold winters. The average annual temperature is 4.6°C, and the highest temperature in history can reach 40°C. Since meteorological records began in 1951, the lowest temperature was in 1970, at -36.5°C. The annual precipitation is 600-700 mm, the frost-free period is 140-150 days, and the freezing period is 5 months.
