Shenzhen History & Culture


Shenzhen has a history of 7000 years of human activity and 1700 years of city construction. It belongs to a comprehensive landform area mainly composed of hills, low mountains, hills, plateaus, terraces, and plains. It belongs to subtropical monsoon climate, with long summer and short winter, mild climate, abundant sunshine, and abundant rainfall. The predecessor of Shenzhen was Bao'an County. During the Ming and Qing dynasties, the main part belonged to Xin'an County of Guangzhou Prefecture, and before its establishment, it belonged to the Huiyang area. The name Shenzhen first appeared in historical records in the eighth year of the Yongle reign of the Ming Dynasty (1410). In March 1979, Bao'an County was renamed as Shenzhen City, under the dual leadership of Guangdong Province and Huiyang Region. In November, it was directly under the leadership of Guangdong Province. On August 26, 1980, Shenzhen established the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone. Shenzhen is one of the key overseas Chinese hometowns in Guangdong Province, an important old revolutionary base area, and one of the birthplaces of the Dongjiang Column during the Anti Japanese War
