Yantai Apples received a geographical indication trademark from the State Administration for Industry and Commerce in May 2011. Apple cultivation was introduced to Yantai from the United States in 1871, making Yantai the birthplace of apple cultivation in China. Yantai apples are characterized by five main features: well-shaped fruit, smooth surface, bright color, juicy and refreshing taste, and crisp flesh.
