Taian History & Culture

Tai'an City derives its name from Mount Tai, a place where the saying "If Mount Tai is safe, the whole world is safe" embodies the wish for national prosperity and peace. The city proper is situated at the southern foot of Mount Tai, built into the mountainside, creating a harmonious blend of urban and mountain landscapes. Mount Tai, located within its borders, is a national key scenic area, renowned as the "Foremost of the Five Sacred Mountains" and "The First Mountain Under Heaven," and is a World Natural and Cultural Heritage site. Tai'an was designated as one of the first batch of cities open to foreign tourism by the State Council in 1982. Tai'an is one of the central cities in central Shandong Province, a National Excellent Tourism City, and a National Historical and Cultural City.
