Shangrao City, formerly known as Xinzhou and Guangxin, is a prefecture-level city in Jiangxi Province, located in the northeastern part of Jiangxi. It borders Zhejiang Province to the east, Fujian Province and Yingtan City of Jiangxi Province to the south, Fuzhou City, Nanchang City, and Jiujiang City to the west, and Jingdezhen City and Huangshan City of Anhui Province to the north. The terrain is predominantly hilly, higher in the southeast and lower in the northwest. Poyang Lake lies to the west. It has a subtropical humid climate and a total area of 22,737 square kilometers. It has developed leading industries such as new energy, non-ferrous metals, electromechanical optics, and new building materials. Shangrao City is a national comprehensive transportation hub, with the Hefei-Fuzhou High-Speed Railway and the Shanghai-Kunming High-Speed Railway passing through it.
