According to geological survey, Mount Sanqing was submerged by sea water three times. Some people say that the West Coast is the coastline of the past. In order to let tourists appreciate the endless charm of the west coast, in 2002, the Mount Sanqing Management Committee invested more than 20 million yuan to lift piles from the cliff wall by workers with long ropes and pave the road.
It took five months to build a high-altitude plank road, namely the West Sea plank road, on the cliff. The west coast starts from the crossroad 50 meters behind Liuxia Terrace in the south to the southwest of Sanqing Fudi Hanxing Pool in Sanqing Palace Scenic Area in the north. The average elevation is about 1600 meters, the total length is about 4 kilometers, and the width is only 1.3-2 meters. From afar, it looks like a jade belt around the towering cliffs, which is a breathtaking and dangerous scenic spot in Mount Sanqing.
