Zhanqiao Park

The wharf is located on the southern coast of the central urban area of Qingdao, and is a 440 meter long sea corridor that extends from the land into the sea. The wharf was built during the reign of Emperor Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty (1892) and has a history of over a hundred years. It has always been regarded as a symbol of Qingdao. The Huilan Pavilion at the end of the wharf is a witness to the modern history of Qingdao.

Zhanqiao was once a military dedicated artificial wharf in Qingdao. The wharf faces Little Qingdao across the water, and its northern end is connected to Zhongshan Road Commercial Street in a straight line. At the end of the wharf, there is a triangular breakwater, and here is an octagonal pavilion with ethnic style called Huilan Pavilion. There is a wordless stone tablet in Huilan Pavilion, and the origin of this stone tablet is still disputed. Now, through themed exhibitions, the pavilion comprehensively showcases the unique urban style of Qingdao, including its modern and contemporary history, culture, and folk customs.

There are iron chain guardrails and lotus street lamps on both sides of the wharf. Visitors can stroll along the seaside of the wharf, and when the wind is calm, they can watch seagulls soaring freely here. At the end of the bridge, you can also overlook Little Qingdao in the distance. On the island, the shadows of the trees sway and the greenery gathers in groups, and a white lighthouse stands tall and elegant. When the tide rises, the waves crash against the breakwater, creating clusters of waves that one can stop and watch. At low tide, the ochre colored rocks and golden sandy beaches emerge from the water, and you can walk down the pier and stroll on the beach to catch seashells.

Qingdao Railway Station is not far away, and it only takes 10 minutes to walk to the wharf. When you get off the train and walk out of the station hall, you can see the wharf extending into the sea. On both sides of the northern end of the wharf are the wharf park. On the east side, red tiles and green trees complement each other, and various buildings are staggered and scattered along the seaside. To the west of the pier is the sixth beach, where many local swimmers often gather during the summer season.                                                                                                                                                                                   Travel  Tips
