Kang Youwei Former Residence Memorial of Qingdao

Kang Youwei was a major leader of the late Qing Dynasty's reform movement. After the failure of the reform, he went into exile overseas and returned to his homeland after the Xinhai Revolution. After Kang Youwei came to Qingdao in 1923, he bought this building to live in and was very satisfied with the courtyard. He said, "This house in Qingdao is so good that I have never seen before in my life." "This house is small but the garden is very large, and the sea and blue waves are only a hundred steps away. Kang Youwei stayed here for a period of time every year until he passed away on March 31, 1927 at Tianyou Garden.

The park was first built in 1899 and is a 3-story German style brick and concrete structure. During the German occupation of Qingdao, it served as the official residence of key officials of the German Governor General's Office in Qingdao. The house is made of brick and wood structure. During his stay here, Kang Youwei met cultural celebrities and had the potential to study calligraphy. Therefore, the former residence enjoys a high reputation both domestically and internationally. But when you come to Qingdao for tourism, being able to visit here and admire the legacy of our ancestors is also a great joy in your life.       Travel  Tips
