Nanjing City, referred to as "Ning", also known as "Jinling", "Jiankang" and "Stone City", is a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Jiangsu Province, the capital of Jiangsu Province, a sub-provincial city and a megacity. It is located in the southwest of Jiangsu Province and the lower reaches of the Yangtze River. It is a city in the central area of the Yangtze River Delta.Nanjing has a total area of 6,587.04 square kilometers. As of December 2023, it will have jurisdiction over 11 districts. By the end of 2024, Nanjing's permanent population will be 9.577 million. The Nanjing dialect is Jianghuai Mandarin.
Steel, petrochemicals, automobiles, and electronics are the four pillar industries that underpin Nanjing's economy. Nanjing is a top-ten economy and manufacturing city nationwide. Designated by the National Development and Reform Commission as a "National Key Regional Financial and Business Center," it is the only pilot city in China for comprehensive reform of its science and technology system and the first "China Software City."
In 2024, Nanjing's GDP is expected to reach 1,850.081 billion yuan, a 4.5% year-on-year increase.
