Qinhuai River, a right bank tributary of the lower reaches of the Yangtze River, was formerly known as Longzangpu. It was called Huai River in the Han Dynasty and Qinhuai River after the Tang Dynasty.

The Qinhuai River has two sources, north and south. The northern source, Jurong River, originates from the southern foot of Baohua Mountain in Jurong City, and the southern source, Lishui River, originates from Donglu Mountain in Lishui District, Nanjing City. The two rivers converge at the northwest village of Fangshandai in Jiangning District, Nanjing City to form the main stream of the Qinhuai River. They bypass Fangshan and flow northwest to the outer city gate, Shangfangmen, and enter Nanjing City from Dongshuiguan. They cross the city from east to west, and flow out from Xishuiguan in the south, eventually emptying into the Yangtze River.
The Qinhuai River is the mother river of Nanjing, witnessing the development of its entire civilization. With its rich cultural heritage and innate conditions, it was already a gathering place for prestigious families during the Six Dynasties period. The Ming and Qing dynasties were the peak period of development on both sides of the Qinhuai River.
Tourists can take a classical and exquisite wooden boat to enjoy the street scenery on both sides of the Qinhuai River.
