Nanjing Museum

Nanjing Museum is located at the southern foot of Purple Mountain and on the north side of Zhongshan Gate. Here, you can not only see ancient cultural relics, but also appreciate calligraphy and painting art, and even take a walk on the old streets for a journey through time.

The museum was established in 1933 and completed in 1948, with the main hall modeled after the gate of Dule Temple in Tianjin. In 2009, it was expanded and opened to the public on November 6, 2013, becoming the second largest museum in China after the National Museum of China. It has six museums, including the History Museum, Special Exhibition Hall, Digital Museum, Art Museum, Republic of China Museum, and Intangible Cultural Heritage Museum.

The main building of the museum is divided into two parts, left and right. After walking a distance to the right, there is the old main hall of the museum, which is modeled after the Dule Temple. It is no longer used for displaying exhibits, but has become a place for security checks. After the Dule Temple is the History Museum, and the other five museums are on the left side.

The History Museum displays cultural relics arranged in chronological order from ancient times to the Ming and Qing dynasties. Walking through it feels like strolling through the 5000 year civilization of Jiangsu province. Worth seeing are: dinosaur skeletons from ancient times; Golden thread clothing, silver thread clothing; The wall was built with bricks during the Northern and Southern Dynasties, and upon closer inspection, there are faintly engraved brick carvings of the "Seven Sages of the Bamboo Grove".
