Nanchang Overview


Nanchang City (English name: Nanchang City), abbreviated as Hong or Chang, is a prefecture-level city and the capital of Jiangxi Province, classified as a Type I large city. Located between 115°27' and 116°35' east longitude and 28°10' and 29°11' north latitude, it lies in the north-central part of Jiangxi Province, on the lower reaches of the Gan and Fu Rivers, and on the southwest bank of Poyang Lake. It has a subtropical monsoon climate, with a terrain that slopes from northwest to southeast, primarily consisting of plains. The municipal government is located at No. 118 Xinfu Road, Honggutan District. It administers 6 districts and 3 counties, covering a total area of 7,194.98 square kilometers. As of the end of 2024, the city's permanent resident population was 6,670,400, an increase of 102,200 from the end of the previous year. The Nanchang dialect belongs to the Gan language family.
