Leshan Climate

Leshan City has developed a variety of climate types due to its specific geographical conditions. Located near 29° north latitude, the city belongs to the mid-subtropical climate zone, characterized by distinct four seasons, abundant rainfall, simultaneous hot and cold seasons, and a long frost-free period. The average annual temperature ranges from 16.5°C to 18.0°C, with an average frost-free period of over 300 days, an average of 4.2 to 9.4 frost days, and only 1.0 to 2.7 snow days. Leshan is a high-yield region for agricultural and sideline products such as rice, wheat, oilseeds, sugar, fruit, and cotton. The southwestern mountainous area exhibits significant vertical variations in climate, with a complete range of mid-subtropical, warm temperate, temperate, and cold temperate climate zones from the foothills to the summits. This complex climate makes it a prime location for integrated agricultural operations and vertical farming. It is a major producer of timber, tea, and traditional Chinese medicinal herbs, and a valuable tourist destination. Influenced by the monsoon and the uplift of the terrain, the climate is humid and rainfall is abundant. The average annual precipitation in most areas is above 1,000 mm, and in Emeishan City it is above 1,500 mm. Only in Ebian and Jinkouhe it is less than 1,000 mm. Precipitation varies seasonally, with summer and autumn rainfall accounting for about 80% of the annual rainfall and winter and spring rainfall accounting for only 20%. The inter-annual differences in precipitation are large, with the minimum annual precipitation mostly below 900 mm, and the maximum annual precipitation in some areas exceeding 2,000 mm.
