Zhangzhou Overview


Zhangzhou, a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Fujian Province, is located in southern Fujian Province. It borders Jimei District of Xiamen City to the east, Zhangping and Yongding counties of Longyan City to the north, Dapu County of Meizhou City and Raoping County of Chaozhou City in Guangdong Province to the west, and Taiwan Province across the sea to the southeast. It covers an area of 12,607 square kilometers. It has a subtropical marine monsoon climate and is mountainous, with high terrain in the northwest and low terrain in the southeast. The Bopingling Mountains stretch across the northwestern border, and the remnants of the Daiyun Mountains extend deep into the northern part of the territory. As of 2024, Zhangzhou City has jurisdiction over four districts and seven counties. The permanent population is 5.063 million. The Zhangzhou dialects include Zhangzhou Minnan dialect, Hakka dialect, and a small amount of Chaoshan dialect. The municipal government is located at 118 Shengli West Road, Zhangzhou City.
