Zhangye Overview


Zhangye City (formerly known as Ganzhou) is a prefecture-level city in Gansu Province, China, located in northwestern Gansu Province, in the central section of the Hexi Corridor. It borders Wuwei and Jinchang to the east, Jiayuguan and Jiuquan to the west, Qinghai Province to the south, and Inner Mongolia to the north. As of January 2024, Zhangye governs one district and five counties, covering a total area of 38,600 square kilometers. At the end of 2023, Zhangye's permanent population reached 1.1046 million. Its dialect belongs to the Lanyin area of the Qinlong language group, within the northwestern subdialectal region of the Northern dialect area.
