Suzhou, a prefecture-level city and megacity under the jurisdiction of Jiangsu Province, is located in southeastern Jiangsu Province in East China, bordering Shanghai to the east, Zhejiang Province to the south, Taihu Lake to the west, and the Yangtze River to the north. It is a central city in the Yangtze River Delta, situated within the Yangtze River Delta Plain and Taihu Lake Plain. Its terrain is low and flat, crisscrossed by rivers and numerous lakes, with the vast majority of Taihu Lake within Suzhou. It enjoys a subtropical monsoon maritime climate and covers a total area of 8,657.32 square kilometers. At the end of 2023, Suzhou will govern five districts and administer four county-level cities. The Municipal People's Government is located at 998 Sanxiang Road, Gusu District. At the end of 2024, Suzhou's permanent population will be 12.987 million.
