Nanning is a Type I large city, designated by the State Council as a key central city in South China and a national comprehensive transportation hub. It serves as an open gateway to ASEAN and a key node in the Belt and Road Initiative, serving as the intersection of the South China Economic Circle, the Southwest Economic Circle, and the China-ASEAN Economic Circle. It boasts proximity to the sea, the border, and the river and coastal areas. Approximately 200 kilometers from the China-Vietnam border, it is the closest provincial capital to ASEAN countries. Known as "China's Green City" and "a place beloved by folk songs worldwide," Nanning has received the UN Habitat Award and titles such as National Civilized City, National Ecological Garden City, National Sanitary City, National Forest City, and China's Excellent Tourist City. Nanning is the permanent venue for the China-ASEAN Expo and a land-port national logistics hub for the New Western Land-Sea Corridor. Based on the industrial development plan for the Nanning area of the China (Guangxi) Pilot Free Trade Zone, the city is cultivating and developing five key industrial clusters: modern finance, advanced manufacturing, digital economy, smart logistics, and cultural, sports, and medical care.
