Zhengzhou City God Temple


Zhengzhou City God Temple, located in the north of the east section of Shangcheng Road, is a well preserved and large-scale ancient building complex in Henan Province. The construction time of this temple cannot be verified, but it has undergone multiple renovations since the Ming Hongzhi period and has basically preserved its historical appearance, making it extremely precious.

This temple faces north and south, covering an area of about 10 acres. It consists of a main gate, a courtyard, a theater, a main hall, a sleeping palace, and east and west corridors. All the halls are covered with glazed tiles, with exquisite shapes and compact structures.

In front of the temple gate, there is a 6-stage fan-shaped hanging belt style stomp, with a pair of stone lions standing on both sides. Passing through the courtyard, the grey tube roof is adorned with large kisses at both ends of the main ridge. The central part is decorated with two dragons playing with pearls and a treasure vase, with relief figures below and a statue in the center. On each side, there is a pair of chasing and fighting knights, with different postures and lifelike appearances.

The carvings inside and outside the main hall are very distinctive, with dragons and phoenixes carved on the front ridge, and lotus flowers, lions, etc. next to them. The patterns are exquisite and the carving is meticulous; Entering the main hall, carved dragons, phoenixes, and peonies can be seen on both sides; The hall is engraved with the words' Eight Immortals Crossing the Sea ', as well as green pine and cypress trees, human figures, birds, and animals. The composition is harmonious and exquisite, with exquisite craftsmanship.

Every year, the 18th day of March in the lunar calendar is the birthday of the City God. Temple fairs will be held in the Chenghuang Temple. At that time, all kinds of folk crafts and snacks will gather here. People coming to the temple fair will be endless, and the scene will be very lively.
