Quanzhou Overview


Quanzhou City, referred to as "Carp", also known as Citong City and Wenling, is a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Fujian Province and one of the three central cities in the province. It is located in the southeastern coast of Fujian Province, bordering Fuzhou and Putian to the north, Xiamen to the south, Taiwan to the east, and Zhangzhou, Longyan and Sanming to the west, covering an area of 11,295.57 square kilometers. Quanzhou City has high terrain in the northwest and low terrain in the southeast, facing the mountains and the sea, and is mainly mountainous and hilly. It has a subtropical marine monsoon climate with sufficient light and heat, abundant rainfall, warm and humid weather. As of the end of 2024, Quanzhou City has jurisdiction over 4 districts, 5 counties, and administers 3 county-level cities. The municipal government is located in Building 2, Donghai Administrative Center, Quanzhou City. As of the end of 2024, Quanzhou City has a permanent population of 8.914 million. The main dialect is Minnan dialect, and the common language is Mandarin
