Guanyue Temple

The Tonghuai Pass Yue Temple is located on the bustling Tumen Street in the ancient city of Quanzhou. From afar on Tumen Street, you can see the wisps of green smoke and smell the strong aroma of incense.

It has a history of nearly a thousand years and the main deity worshipped in the temple is Guan Yu. It is one of the historical and cultural landmarks of Quanzhou, and also a rare temple in China dedicated to Guan Yu and Yue Fei.

The architectural style of Guanyue Temple reflects the artistic style of ancient Minnan architecture, with exquisitely decorated wood carvings, stone carvings, and clay sculptures, roof pagodas with dragon kisses, and decorated with flowers, birds, and animals. Beautiful buildings make them worth taking photos and admiring in themselves.

The sacrificial hall is not large, and as soon as you enter, you can hear a continuous stream of divination sounds. It is a way of judging good or bad fortune by throwing two shell shaped wooden boards on the ground in opposite directions. You can also come and predict good or bad fortune.

Entering the temple, Guan Yu is worshipped on the left and Yue Fei is worshipped on the right. The rest of the places are covered with couplets and inscriptions, which are actually cultural relics.

There are two poems by Mi Fu and Dong Qichang on the left and right walls outside the temple gate. There are also ancient plaques such as "Zhengqi" handwritten by the great Confucian scholar Zhu Xi of the Song Dynasty and "Filling Heaven and Earth" handwritten by the calligrapher Zhang Ruitu of the Ming Dynasty in the temple. These cultural relics give the Tonghuai Pass Yue Temple a stronger sense of history and cultural heritage.
