Longyan City, commonly known as Western Fujian, is a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Fujian Province. Located in western Fujian at the junction of Fujian, Guangdong, and Jiangxi provinces, it is a renowned revolutionary base and the core area of the former Central Soviet Area. It is the hometown of the Red Army and one of the key starting points of the Long March, earning the acclaim of "Twenty Years of Red Flags Flying." It is also a major mining and forestry area in Fujian Province, home to the most branded tourist destination in the Haixi region, and a key birthplace and practice of Xi Jinping Thought on Ecological Civilization. It has a total area of 19,028 square kilometers. By the end of 2023, Longyan City had a permanent population of 2.693 million. As of June 2023, Longyan City governs two urban districts, four counties, and administers one county-level city. The Municipal People's Government is located at No. 1 Longyan Avenue, Longyan City.
Nanping City is a National Ecological Demonstration Zone and a National Green Development Demonstration Zone. It is the source of the Minjiang River, an ecological barrier for Fujian Province, and one of the best ecological environments on Earth at its latitude. The area boasts towering peaks, widespread low mountains, and interspersed river valleys and small basins, embodying the typical "eight mountains, one river, and one part farmland" characteristic of southern China. It boasts over 150 tourist attractions, including Wuyi Mountain, one of only four nationally designated World Heritage Sites. The Hefu High-Speed Railway, Yingxia Railway, Waifu Railway, Hengnan Railway, Quning Railway, National Highways 205 and 316 pass through the city. Wuyishan Airport and the Minjiang River mainstream also provide shipping routes and waterways.
