Jokhang Temple


Jokhang Temple, the Tibetan language for “juekang”, also known as “zulakang”, is the end of the Tibetan Buddhist believers pilgrimage, in their hearts, Jokhang Temple of the sacred, not inferior to the Potala Palace. Whether from the geographic location, or in the minds of Tibetan Buddhists, Jokhang Temple is a true Tibetan Buddhism and the center of the Holy Land, in the history of Tibetan Buddhism has an extremely high and holy status.

Jokhang Temple was built in the seventh century in the middle, is the Tibetan King Songtsen Gampo in order to put its consort Nepal Shakun Princess, from his hometown of Kathmandu to bring the Sakyamuni 8-year-old statue of the Buddha and the construction of the year 1409, the founder of Gelukpa master ZongKaBa in the Jokhang Temple to promote the Dharma, held in the Dazhao big puja, thus laying down its important position in the history of Tibetan Buddhism. In the eighth century A.D., Princess Wencheng of the Great Tang Dynasty, when she entered Tibet from Chang'an to bring Sakyamuni twelve-year-old statue for the Da Zhao Temple, Da Zhao Temple has become the treasure of the temple.

In addition, the temple has nearly a thousand meters long Tibetan murals “Princess Wencheng into Tibet” and “the construction of the Great Show Monastery map”, there are two embroidered thangkas of the Dharma protector of the Ming Dynasty, for rare art treasures.
