Dandong Overview


Dandong, formerly known as Andong, is a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Liaoning Province. Located in the southeastern part of Liaoning Province, it faces North Korea's Sinuiju across the Yangtze River to the east, borders the Yellow Sea to the south, Anshan to the west, Dalian to the southwest, and Benxi to the north. The terrain gradually descends from northeast to southwest, and the city enjoys a warm temperate humid monsoon climate. It covers a total area of 15,289.6 square kilometers. As of the end of 2022, Dandong City governs three urban districts, one autonomous county, and administers two county-level cities. As of the end of 2024, Dandong City's permanent population is 2.069 million.
