Xishuangbannadaizuzizhizhou Climate


Xishuangbanna Prefecture is located in the subtropical zone, belonging to the humid monsoon climate of the northern tropical and southern subtropical regions. Situated on the northern edge of the tropics, Xishuangbanna is protected to the north by the Ailao Mountains and Wuliang Mountains, which block cold air currents from the south. To the south and east, it borders the Indian Ocean and the Bay of Bengal. In summer, it is influenced by the southwest monsoon from the Indian Ocean and the southeasterly airflow from the Pacific Ocean, resulting in a hot and rainy climate with distinct dry and wet seasons but indistinct seasons. Therefore, Xishuangbanna's climate is warm and humid year-round, with no distinct seasons, only a dry season from November to April of the following year, and a wet season from May to October. In 2023, the annual rainfall in all counties and cities of the prefecture ranged from 627.5 to 1196.6 mm. Compared with the same period of the previous year, Jinghong received particularly little rainfall, while Menghai and Mengla received less. The total sunshine hours in all counties and cities ranged from 1889.3 to 1966.2 hours. Compared with the same period of the previous year, Jinghong received less sunshine, while Mengla and Menghai received normal sunshine. The average annual temperature in all counties and cities ranged from 19.6 to 25.6℃. Compared with the same period of the previous year, Jinghong and Mengla received higher temperatures, while Menghai received normal temperatures.
