Mengmen Mountain is located in Mengmen Ancient Town, Liulin County, Shanxi Province, and is the main scenic spot near Hukou Waterfall. The main attractions here include: Mengmen Nanshan Temple, Dayu's Water Control Ruins, Mengmen Island and other famous historical sites.

According to historical records, Longmen, Lvliang, Mengmen, and Hukou were the four key projects of Dayu's flood control. Among them, Mengmen was the first gate on the Yellow River during Dayu's flood control, located less than five kilometers away from Hukou Waterfall. Look, there are two spindle shaped boulders standing tall in the riverbed at the bottom of the Yellow River below, forming two islands at the center of the river. This is Mengmen Mountain.
According to legend, these two small islands were originally a mountain that blocked the river and caused flooding. When Emperor Yu controlled the floods, he split the mountain into two to ensure smooth water flow. These two islands look like boats in the distance, like mountains up close, and like gates when viewed from above.
It is also said that in ancient times, the descendants of the Meng brothers were washed away by the river and were rescued here, so these two islands were called Mengmen Mountain. The larger island is called Damengmen Island, which is about 300 meters long, 50 meters wide, and about 10 meters above the water surface.
