Hukou Waterfall is located in the Qin Jin Grand Canyon on the Yellow River bed, about 35 kilometers east of Yichuan County, Yan'an City, Shaanxi Province. Its eastern side is under the jurisdiction of Linfen County, Shanxi Province. Due to the large amount of sediment carried by the Yellow River, Hukou Waterfall has become a rare golden waterfall in the world.
When the Yellow River roared all the way to the Qin Jin Gorge, the width of the river suddenly shrank from over 400 meters to 50 meters, pouring into a 30 meter drop stone trough. It was named Hukou Waterfall because it resembled a teapot filled with water. The Yellow River water is gathered here by the canyon, bundled into a stream, rushing and whistling down, jumping into the deep pool, splashing huge waves and creating clouds of mist and smoke. The scene is extremely spectacular. Standing by the river watching, everyone is shocked. This place is also known as the "national spirit", the "soul of the Yellow River", and a symbol of the Chinese nation's courage to move forward.
Hukou Waterfall has different scenery throughout the year, and the best travel time is divided into two periods. One is from April to May every year, when peach blossoms bloom near the waterfall and the frozen ice on the shore begins to melt, creating a lively spring atmosphere, known as the "March Peach Blossom Flood". The second is from September to November every year, when the rainy season has just passed and there are occasional waves of autumn wind blowing, often accompanied by the appearance of rainbows, called "Hukou Autumn Wind". In spring and autumn, there is a large amount of water, and the sound of water rushing is like thunder, which is even more shocking than usual.
In addition, it is possible to see the 'Ice Waterfall Wonders' in winter. The river flows down from the ice formations of different shapes on both sides, and a beautiful ice bridge is built under the waterfall. The water column formed by the overflow on both sides hangs upside down on the cliff like an ice peak.
