The Tainan Confucian Temple was built in 1665. Over the past 300 years, the Confucian Temple has undergone several major renovations and is a magnificent Confucian temple in Taiwan. It has been listed as a first-class historical site. Most of the visitors here, except for tourists, are students, praying for their academic success.
The entire Tainan Confucian Temple still maintains the traditional pattern of "left school, right temple". The left school is mainly composed of the Minglun Hall, while the right temple is centered around the Dacheng Hall. The main building inside the Confucian Temple is the Dacheng Hall located in the center. Surprisingly, there are no columns or corridors in the hall, only beams supported by thick walls. The structure is unique and can be regarded as a typical representative of ancient Chinese architecture.
The main deity worshipped in the Confucian Temple is Confucius, while the east and west corners offer sacrifices to other ancient sages and sages. The annual ceremony to worship Confucius is held in the Confucian Temple Square. On the day of the annual festival on September 28th in the Gregorian calendar, the mayor of Tainan presides over the ceremony, following ancient rituals. The atmosphere is solemn, and the ceremony is grand. The ancient trees beside the temple, lush and winding, evoke a sense of nostalgia for the past.
There is also a genuine plaque in the display of the Confucian Temple that reads "Taiwan's First Learning". It is unknown who wrote it without a signature, and below the plaque is a statue of Chen Yonghua, a counselor who joined the army. It was this gentleman who convinced Zheng Jing, the son of Zheng Chenggong, to "establish a holy temple and build a school" back then, and is now praised by later generations as an "advocate of education in Taiwan". This Confucian temple was also the first higher education institution built by Zheng Chenggong after the recapture of Taiwan. In the early Qing Dynasty, it was the place where all Taiwanese children enrolled, hence it is known as the "first school in Taiwan". Travel Tips
