Chikan Tower, also known as the "Red Hair Tower", has undergone over 300 years of changes and can be said to be a witness to the historical changes in Tainan. Its architectural features range from Dutch style castles to Chinese style architecture. Today, it is not only an outdoor museum, but also a famous historical site and spiritual symbol in Tainan.
The Sea God Temple to the south and the Wenchang Pavilion to the north of the courtyard of the Chikan Tower complex are two traditional Chinese buildings with red tiles and flying eaves. The attic hanging the "Chikan Tower" door plaque is the Sea God Temple, which displays historical and cultural materials related to Chikan Tower. There are two vase shaped door openings around the back door of the Sea God Temple, representing the meaning of "peace".
After visiting the Haishen Temple, we arrived at the Wenchang Pavilion to the north. It was built during the Guangxu period of the Qing Dynasty and now houses the Wenchang Emperor. On the second floor, there is the Kuixing God, one of the Five Wenchang Gods, who was the examination god during the imperial examination era. After taking a detour from Wenchang Pavilion, there are remnants of Pucheng Lengbao, which are also valuable historical relics in Chikan Tower.
There are also historical sites such as the Temple of Sacrificial Martial Arts and the Temple of the Heavenly Queen around Chikan Tower, which combine to form an ancient city museum. It's worth exploring together. The commercial area near Chikanlou is bustling, and the food is not inferior. You can go to Yifeng to drink winter melon tea, or go to Xiaoyue to have a bowl of Danzai noodles, Tainan special braised pork, Seafood noodles, and shrimp rice. Travel Tips
