Dahe Ancient Town is a relatively large and well preserved Tang Dynasty ancient city site in the Hami region, hence it is called Dahetangcheng or Dahetangcheng. Dahetangcheng is located in the central area of the bottom of the Balikun Basin, with a flat terrain, a flat river, fertile land, abundant water sources, and suitable for agriculture.

The famous' Great River 'originates from underground springs on the east side of the city, making it suitable for agriculture. From here to the old house, it is known as the' Ganlu River 'in ancient times. This is a good place to cultivate the border and produce military grain. Until modern times, this place has always been a grain warehouse in Barkol that can withstand droughts and floods, and is one of the Eight Scenic Spots of Barkol known for its "planting crops and stacking clouds".
The ancient city is rectangular in shape, with a wider city wall in the middle dividing it into two small towns, the main city and the auxiliary city, located in the east and west. The two cities are parallel from east to west, with the main city stretching 210 meters from north to south and 180 meters from east to west. The city wall is nearly 10 meters high and 12 meters wide. There is only one door on the west wall, with a width of 4 meters.

Place one horse face at the north end of the city gate and two horse faces at the south end. There are two horse faces on the north wall, and the one that is well preserved is 8 meters wide and 9 meters high. There is an enemy station in the middle of Nancheng. The east wall is the west wall of the attached city, with only one passage leading to the main city. There are three horse faces built in the attached city, one at the north end and two at the south end. There are corner towers at the four corners of the city wall, but only the northwest and southwest corners are well preserved. Fucheng is located in the east, with a length of 240 meters from north to south and a width of 177 meters from east to west. The city wall is 4-5 meters high and 10 meters wide.
Many relics were collected in the city, mainly pottery and bronze ware, with less iron ware, such as bronze mirrors, coins, copper bars, etc. The building materials include gray lotus flower tiles and lotus patterned tiles, all of which are typical Tang Dynasty relics. Large pottery waste and large stone grinding plates are scattered throughout the city. All of these demonstrate to visitors the prosperity of agricultural production at that time, proving that this place was once a large-scale grain storage base.
