Barkol Ancient City

Barkol has always been the eastern gateway of Xinjiang since ancient times, located on a transportation hub and a strategic location for military strategists. Therefore, the ancient city that was originally built for garrison purposes was also constructed here, giving birth to large-scale buildings such as ancient city walls, temples, and ancient residences. Nowadays, these buildings are well preserved and are also places that many tourists visit when they come to Barkol for sightseeing.

The ancient city of Barkol is divided into two adjacent buildings, namely Han City and Man City. Han City is named after the Han soldiers and residents who lived there at that time, while Man City was mainly inhabited by Manchu soldiers and soldiers from the Eight Banners. Nowadays, the city wall is well preserved and you can overlook the county town from it. However, there is only one Desheng Gate left in the city tower, which has a magnificent architectural scale and can be photographed as a souvenir.

It is located in the city of Barkol County, with well preserved ancient residential houses on both sides. Various wooden carved gatehouses, as well as official, commercial, and camel houses, display the owner's identity and status at that time.

The grand and colorful double eaved gable style antique buildings have a magnificent atmosphere and complete layout. The courtyard has a wide view, with 14 buildings arranged from east to west along the central axis, including the Lingxing Gate, Yingbi, Zhuangyuan Bridge, Dacheng Hall, etc. Symmetrically located on both sides are the wing rooms and supporting halls, which is the Confucian architectural style of "harmony is beauty".

In addition to the city towers and walls, there are also ancient buildings such as Dizang Temple, Xiangu Temple, and Balikun Ancient Residence in the county town. You can see rare Buddhist and Taoist buildings in Xinjiang, and it is a good place to visit and worship for blessings.
