The main ethnic festivals in Qiannan Buyi and Miao Autonomous Prefecture include Buyi "March 3rd", "June 6th", "Chabai Song Festival", and "Maoshan Tree Song Festival"; The Miao ethnic group celebrates the "second day of the second lunar month" as a family reunion, the "eighth day of the eighth lunar month" as a festive occasion, and the "Flower Picking Festival" (also known as the "Jumping Flower Slope"); Yi ethnic group's "Torch Festival" and so on. Ethnic song and dance, the Yi ethnic dance "A-Mei Qituo" is known as the "Eastern Tap Dance", and the Buyi ethnic group's "Eight Tones Sitting Singing", Buyi Bronze Drum Twelve Songs, Chabai Song Festival, local paper-making, Buyi Opera, etc. have been listed as national intangible cultural heritage.

On September 21, 1981, Xingyi Prefecture was abolished and Qiannan Buyi and Miao Autonomous Prefecture was established. On May 1, 1982, the People's Government of Qiannan Buyi and Miao Autonomous Prefecture was officially established.  

Qiannan Prefecture has a wide distribution, large reserves, and high quality of gold. In 2005, it was named "China's Golden State" by the China Gold Association. Qiannan Prefecture has beautiful mountains, pleasant climate, and profound cultural heritage. During the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty, the famous Bishan Academy was founded.
