The famous work "Record of Yueyang Tower" by Fan Zhongyan of the Northern Song Dynasty expresses the traditional Chinese intellectuals' concern for the country and the people, and also makes this famous tower on the banks of Dongting Lake a well-known place. Throughout history, literati such as Meng Haoran, Li Bai, Du Fu, Han Yu, and Bai Juyi have come here and left behind many excellent works. Nowadays, when you climb to the top of a three story building and gaze out from the railing, you will see the vast and misty waters of Dongting Lake for eight hundred miles before your eyes, and the echoes of those timeless sayings will involuntarily echo in your ears.
The Yueyang Tower Scenic Area is located at the west gate of Yueyang City, adjacent to Dongting Lake. It is known as one of the three famous towers in Jiangnan, along with Tengwang Pavilion in Nanchang, Jiangxi and Yellow Crane Tower in Wuhan, Hubei. In addition to climbing the tower and gazing at the ancient world, its unique architectural structure is also worth a visit. The whole building does not use an iron nail and a beam, and the roof form is also very unique. The ancient general's helmet style roof structure is used. The "Ruyi arch of wooden architecture" lifting form, which is stacked and matched, is also very unique in the history of ancient architecture in China.
There are also some small attractions within the scenic area. At the Five Dynasties Pavilion near the gate, building models from the Tang, Song, Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties are displayed; On the beach downstairs, there are three iron objects in the shape of shackles, weighing 1500 pounds. The origin and purpose of these objects are still disputed. There is also a dock within the scenic area where you can take a boat to the opposite Junshan Island.
This place is not far from Baling Square and can be visited together. The nearby Bianhe Street is a tourist antique street in Yueyang City, with many local snacks and shops selling tourist souvenirs on the street.
